This cavernous bar is a welcome antidote to stiletto-trodden Orchard Street, but the décor could try a little harder to impress. Named for Manhattan's Irish district of yore, this spot's blank walls and oversaturation of tan booths are neither Irish nor interesting. Still, the bar’s second room boasts pay-to-play pool table, pinball, and more tan booths—and a 50-person outdoor patio compensates for the interior’s anonymity. A seat at the burnished bar is the spot to sip the namesake amber ale while waiting for a table outdoors. When the evenings grow long and balmy, a rowdy crowd can feel safe here, whereas they’d be violating the fire codes at any nearby competitors.
