The owners of Cobble Hill’s Abilene created a lounge that could easily pass for a Pacific Northwest coffee shop, filled with thrift shop curios and matching dumpster-diver furniture. Music and decor leans toward the folksy “mellow gold” era: mismatched period lamps light walls covered by hotel-lobby landscapes and twee cross-stitching projects that would make your grandmother proud; well-preserved floral print couches almost certainly saw heavy use in the early 80’s. Vintage Star Trek and Harlem Globetrotters pinball machines provide yet another retro kick, and an in-house kitchen offers a few tempting sandwich options to soak up your cheap beer, like chicken cordon bleu, French onion soup, and mashed potatoes on white bread (!). Skylark doesn’t quite aspire to hot spot status, but it may be the Slope’s top destination for those who’d like nothing more than to sink into a well-worn seat for a game of “drunk rules” Scrabble.
