The owners of Cobble Hill’s Abilene created a lounge that could easily pass for a Pacific Northwest coffee shop, filled with thrift shop curios and matching dumpster-diver furniture. Music and decor leans toward the folksy “mellow gold” era: mismatched period lamps light walls covered by hotel-lobby landscapes and twee cross-stitching projects that would make your grandmother proud; well-preserved floral print couches almost certainly saw heavy use in the early 80’s. Vintage Medieval Madness and Harlem Globetrotters pinball machines provide yet another retro kick, and an in-house kitchen offers a few tempting sandwich options to soak up your cheap beer, like the chicken bacon jack, caprese, and a pastrami reuben. Skylark doesn’t quite aspire to hot spot status, but it may be the Slope’s top destination for those who’d like nothing more than to sink into a well-worn seat for a game of “drunk rules” Scrabble.
