Slattery’s aims for a platonic ideal of that bland, death-proof institution known as the Irish Midtown Pub—and hits its target. A bright, tomato-red facade hints at individuality but things quickly disappoint inside—plasma TVs dominate the downstairs bar while white tablecloths, rolled napkins, and large panel windows are the most remarkable traits of the upstairs dining room. You already know the menu—chicken pot pie, fish n’ chips, bangers n’ mash—and the beers on tap—Guinness and Magners. Slattery’s does succeed in being spacious, which means plenty of room for every just-out-of-work twenty-something still in their Ann Taylor and Brooks Brothers to bump up against each other.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
