Solas (Gaelic for "light") generates a warmth worthy of its name. Downstairs, red honeycomb lamps flush the dark walls, bathing the artsy, unpretentious crowd of Guinness drinkers in soothing incandescence. Heat rises, and on the weekends, Solas follows suit upstairs in the spacious lounge, where the DJs stoke a burning blend of trip-hop, acid jazz and deep house. In the adjacent Red Room, crimson walls and flickering candles cast a blushing glow on those taking a break from the disco inferno next door.
ExtraSolas occupies the space that was once the infamous Café Tabac, where Madonna used to be a waitress.
