Profile

A haven for corporate parties, the expansive, bi-level Stitch sees big groups of 30-something Midtown professionals in khakis pour in to unbutton their starched collars and sip cocktails around its dark-wood, high-top tables. Smaller groups crowd in at the long, black bar and let elegant rust-orange lamps soothe fluorescent-weary eyes. A small-bites menu, available all day, provides a change from typical corporate soggy-club-sandwich fare: Crab cakes, spring rolls, flautas, and a handful of salads and sandwiches anchor an eclectic list. A balcony visible from the first floor hints at the more intimate space upstairs, where the second bar often hosts private events. Stitch’s walls are painted orange-red, as is a luxuriously high ceiling. Between the list of cheeky cocktails and the warm, spacious feel, you might just forget that you spent the last 12 hours in a cubicle.

Extra

As Stitch caters to large parties and hosts ticketed events, part or all of the bar is occasionally closed to the general public; call ahead to check on admission details.

They give away your credit card

Ive had cases in bars where wrong drinks are added to your tab. A pain, but easily fixed. However, this was the first time that Ive ever had a bar give my credit card to someone else. Thats what happened to me. And the best part is that I knew something was up when the bartenders didnt have much going on and they took 10 mins to show up with my tab. They kept huddling together at the other end of the bar. Then the bartender finally told me that my card was given to someone else I asked to see the manager. Another great response - he wasnt at the bar. Got to be kidding me. A bar in NYC on a Friday at 7:30 and the manager is AWOL! I had to wait 5 more minutes for him to show up. By then I was already on the phone with the credit card company and found that 2 charges were already made with my card. The bartender told my wife that the other guy was a regular - doesn't say much about the regulars does it.
