A typical crowd at Strong Rope makes for a good neighborhood bingo: a pack of runners here, a stroller there. While the space is small and the taproom aesthetics are fairly bare-bones industrial, it's also dog-friendly and offers the option of bringing in your own food, making the bar warm and welcoming, particularly for beer geeks. From award-winning home-brewer Jason Sahler, Strong Rope features twelve taps, all of which rotate seasonal brews that are made in-house or sourced from local New York farms. The range of light to dark beers is thoughtful (and, when introduced into the recommended beer flight, quite beautiful) and the darker suds in particular, like the Storyteller and Thomas the Stumbling Buffalo, are chalky and deeply savory. For the gluten-free (another square on the neighborhood Bingo board), the twelfth tap is always a cider option. Occasional live music on Thursdays, and brewery tours on Saturdays just may, so to speak, rope you in.
