Plopped down on a sleepy strip of Cobble Hill, this bar and restaurant offers sweeping views of the Port Authority’s Brooklyn offices, complete with industrial dumpsters and cranes blocking the water. Sugar Lounge does, however, have an enviable back patio with ample seating, space heaters, and a roofed area sheltering a billiard table and darts. Decorated with a rusty old motor scooter, the back area draws in locals for both late-night outdoor fun and the $10.95 prix fixe brunch on Sundays. Indoors, the highbrow draft-beer selection (Palm, Blue Moon, Kronenbourg 1664, Radeberger Royal Pilsner; if you can’t decide, the bartender will let you taste-test) makes up for the arbitrary décor; red walls adorned with large gold plates and bronze candleholders, a giant Buddha in back, potted palms. There is also a pair of bongos, which comes in handy on Wednesday’s popular karaoke night. Tone-deaf or otherwise, anyone who sings gets a free specialty drink, an infused shot of vodka with goji berries, rum with ginger, or tequila with coffee beans.
