With Local 716 right across the street, this neighborhood tavern could be forgiven for just being a blue-collar, backslapping sort of place. Yet this watering hole is much more than that. It’s got four 40-inch plasma TVs, 25 beers on (brass) tap, and healthy choices like wraps and salads on its menu. Glass wall-sconces and an ochre-stained bar add further refinement, as do two leather couches. Liquor choices extend to various shades of Pucker and several flavored rums, but it's the discerning array of draught beers (with craft ales like Stone and Dogfish Head) that remain the draw. If dishes like salmon and rib-eye steak prove overly ambitious, you’re also using this space in the wrong way if you're doing more chewing that gabbing.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
