Formerly the nightclub Float, then briefly re-opened as Temple, this mega-club is so far east of its nightlife brethren that attendees may find themselves waiting in line under Hairspray's aqua hues at the Neil Simon Theater. But being a wayward child has also given the place a refreshing lack of attitude. The crowd is diverse thanks in part to Indian and Asian promoters and, aside from occasional flossers-in-training from Fordham and Baruch, these kids are not here to pose. Three floors channel the Middle East with columns separating plush lounges and pedestals. On the main dance floor, a domed ceiling's ten struts look like a large octopus descending on revelers. The monolithic D.J. station sometimes pumps hip hop and rock so loud that it can harshen the second floor buzz produced by reggae, incense, and hanging beads. There's refuge in the third floor's chill-out music and make-out lighting. Bottle service ranges from Mumm Joyesse champagne at $125 to Louis XIII cognac at $3,500, but those on the cheap can go for the red-and-green Jell-O shots carried around like wedding handouts.

Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
