Okay, so sipping sangria here isn’t as satisfying as doing the same alongside a cobblestone alley in Barcelona, but colorful floor tiles and windows looking onto the street give this whitewashed, candlelit sliver of a tapas joint a refreshing sense of expansiveness. At a mosaic-tiled bar under lights that recall giant drops of olive oil, girlfriends settle into stools resembling a surrealist crutches by Dali. Nourishment need not stop at the complimentary bowl of olives in citrus oil: There’s potato and egg tortillas and sangria-braised short ribs. Finding company for pungent cheeses like Cabrales isn’t a problem either since the sommelier has pulled together an extensive list of wines including some Tempranillos from the respected Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions as well as some Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.
