This tri-level tavern has all the trappings of a midtown bar: an overlong list of hit-or-miss pricey cocktails (twenty, to be exact), deafeningly loud Top 40 hits, and a few popped collars. But that’s the darkly furnished, chandeliered first floor. Ascend to the second level for an altogether peaceful experience in a room floored, walled, decorated, and perfumed with wood. Go up one more level to a rooftop German beer garden set up with picnic tables and a giant TV screen for sports-watching. Too bad the roof is sandwiched between two taller edifices, making it impossible to catch a breeze in the heat, and the only view is that of the Gansevoort Hotel. But there are more than 30 craft beers on tap, as well as a gastropub menu with bar bites like patatas bravas, goat cheese chorizo fritters, and a midtown-esque $21 charcuterie plate. Come one, come hundreds — this bar has something (read: room) for everyone.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
