Profile
Packed to the brim with beer-chugging college students, and with plenty more spilling out wildly onto the sidewalk, Tempest Bar lives up to its name (at least on weekends). Just a stone's throw from Madison Square Garden, this place is frat-house deluxe with its dorm-guy décor of license plates, beer logos and traffic signs, not to mention the NCAA beaming from TVs throughout. The red-lit, mirror-lined back room, which doubles as the dance floor, is a sea of upturned collars and exposed midriffs, backward baseball caps and Gotti-gelled hair. And the soundtrack? Bon Jovi and Def Leppard, naturally, although sometimes it's hard to tell when the high-fiving crowd screams along with the lyrics. In the front room, worse-for-wear partiers slump on low dark-wood benches or fight their way up to the bar for another round.
ExtraOn Monday and Tuesday nights, Tempest Bar plays host to the New York Dart Organization's league competitions.
