Profile
This blues club may be in the heart of NYU-territory but you won't find many Alpha Phis or thick-glassed deconstructionists bobbing their heads to the funky swamp boogie inside. Instead this candle-lit room with some 30-odd tables (and a modest stage) attracts weathered enthusiasts who know the difference between Beale Street and Bourbon Street. For over a decade, blues fans been coming to hear old favorites like Little Milton and genre-defiant artists like Edgar Winter play out heartbreak honkytonk-style. Two different bands take the stage nightly. The two-drink minimum set at 7:30 p.m. features acoustic acts, often solo guitarists, while the later show at 10:30 p.m. turns on the amps so both bands and audiences can plug in. Thursday is set aside for national combos and the laundry list of musicians who have played here is impressive. Look no further than the autographed headshots peppering the walls. The bar also prides itself on its scotch and bourbon selection.
