For those who appreciate the antics of angry, toothless men on ice, this hockey bar should suffice … barely. A short walk from the Rangers' haunt, Madison Square Garden, the Puck (part of the Robert Emmets/Harrington's Bar family) attracts a down-tempo crowd of tourists and midtown suits, serves none-too-cheap beer and eschews happy hour—not exactly the recipe for a great sports bar. A half-dozen plasma TVs tuned to different games simultaneously, as well as hockey-themed, stained-glass skylights, murmur rather than shout the bar's patron sport. The setting is nice enough, though, with burnished-chocolate wood on the walls and ceilings. The food is Irish-inflected pub grub, like Cheddar-and-sour-cream-drenched fries, and entrées splashed with sauces and concoctions of whiskey, tequila, and brandy.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
