This low-lit upstairs watering hole and lounge is modern and minimalist at first sight, with silvery brick walls and shiny sofas flickering by the light of a fireplace, and leather poufs near a wall of glass overlooking West Third Street. The full bar serves up craft beers, wine, and specialty cocktails like the Berry Sparkling: a mix of Champagne, raspberry vodka, and raspberry purée; the Fugazy Fireball: a jalapeño-infused tequila with raspberries, simple syrup, and lime; and the Dickle: a rye sour with a float of red wine (all $11), running simple and strong. But while the Madelyn is located in prime NYU territory, it attracts an older crowd that appreciates a slight clublike vibe, with a back wall that glows purple, blue, and red, and music fluctuating from nods to the nineties (like the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song) to more current top hits. There's a full menu in the restaurant, but those in the mood for bar snacks won't be disappointed by lamb lollipops or duck-fat fries.
