Jake's Dilemma
|
Hidden in the basement of Upper West Side frat bar Jake's Dilemma lies the Oak Cellar, the type of private space perfect for bros looking to stage an apocalyptic send-off for a friend plunging into wedded bliss. Attendees pass through a mahogany doorway into a stately brick-and-mortar space filled with trappings of Renaissance, Aztec, and Mediterranean décor. A regular bar, wine rack, video screen, and a full sound system are all on hand, and organizers tailor each detail to the individual whims of the client, recruiting servers, chefs, and "entertainers" to complete each night's events. Graduation parties, lush industry conferences, and, yes, even christenings have gone down on the Cellar's hallowed tiles. One final caveat: The room’s stated capacity of 100 people is a bit of an overreach for those looking to stay comfortable.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
