The Slide Bar
This venue is closed.
Named after the city's first publicly acknowledged homosexual haunt (frequented by the notorious Bowery Boys), this low-key fixture of the lower East Village is an homage to the original: a dimly-lit, low-budget hangout where body-shot yielding go-go boys are always a few feet away, as is the tiny boxed-in DJ booth and the phone number of your next date. A nightly five-hour happy hour and offbeat theater performances/drag shows at upstairs neighbor Marquee (owned by the same guys) keep a steady stream of wanderlust trotting through the railway-style space. Fridays, randy dandies and 30-ish creative types are attracted by a $15 open-bar blackout and the bubbly Britpop and alt-dance of DJ Corey Tut.
