Profile
With plenty of drink specials, games with prizes, and plasma TVs, this two-story tavern is a neighborhood spot, college hangout, and sports bar rolled into one. Across the street from Village institution the Blue Note and next door to the swankier Fat Black Pussycat, the Town Tavern has a laid-back, homey feel, with its beaten-leather couch, kitschy vintage signs, photos of partying patrons, and comfort-food menu. The long bar is lined with locals by day, and NYU grad students and young Upper East Side professionals by night. A D.J. revs things up on weekends, but events like beer pong, karaoke, trivia competitions, and guest-bartending nights make weekdays even livelier (if not more grating as well). Philadelphia Eagles fans pack the lower level on game nights, while the more open area upstairs—with a bar, mahogany tables, and wall of full-length windows—hosts many a birthday party and even charity events. — Julie Mehta

Great Place for a Fundraiser

I pride myself on putting together a good party but base that on the experience that my friends have. This was my first attempt at a fundraiser and I took some baby steps, but the staff at The Town Tavern was right there with the pacifier. Jessica, Katie Jane, Martin and Justin were great to work with and answered any question I had for them. They even took care of sending the donation in for my cause. The drink special we set up worked out perfectly and we raised more than $1,400. A good start to something that I hope will become an annual event.
My event was held in the main bar on the first floor, but either floor would have been ideal. The upstairs provides ample space and a more loungy scene. Downstairs offers another good area to enjoy a few cold ones and have a graet time.
All in all, its a graet place to have a great night, and as it turns out, a phenominal host for a fundraiser.
Love this place!

I live down the street and love stopping in Town Tavern. During the week its always a nice mix of afterwork bar and local neighborhood bar. The drinks and food are terrific -- I love their burgers! On the weekend, it can get a little crowded but its always fun! The upstairs bar is great for hosting events, and the staff is wonderful to work with. Katie Jane and her team are awesome!
