Part of Rande Gerber’s nightlife empire (Mr. Cindy Crawford owns clubs in L.A., Las Vegas, and several in New York), this subterranean nightspot in the W New York-Times Square hotel, should, by association, be a miasma of hipness. And to a certain degree it is. Backlit banquettes border the perimeter, while groovy, retro stools line the bar, and hundreds of three-foot strings of ball bearings dangle from the ceiling, giving the minimalist 7,500 square-foot space a certain sex appeal. But the location brings the club down a notch: tourists (from the Midwest and New Jersey alike) and the Manhattanites who love them congregate on the paint-splotched, illuminated floor tiles sipping high-priced cocktails or dancing to top 40 remixes in the adjoining lounge. A third room—the club’s VIP section—projects films on a 19-foot-tall screen.Cover Charge
