W New York - Times Square

This venue is closed.
Part of Rande Gerber’s nightlife empire (Mr. Cindy Crawford owns clubs in L.A., Las Vegas, and several in New York), this subterranean nightspot in the W New York-Times Square hotel, should, by association, be a miasma of hipness. And to a certain degree it is. Backlit banquettes border the perimeter, while groovy, retro stools line the bar, and hundreds of three-foot strings of ball bearings dangle from the ceiling, giving the minimalist 7,500 square-foot space a certain sex appeal. But the location brings the club down a notch: tourists (from the Midwest and New Jersey alike) and the Manhattanites who love them congregate on the paint-splotched, illuminated floor tiles sipping high-priced cocktails or dancing to top 40 remixes in the adjoining lounge. A third room—the club’s VIP section—projects films on a 19-foot-tall screen.
