Although the standing-room-only drink counters facing (hideable) flat-screens are suggestive of a sports bar, this modern pub has a British menu to appeal to game watchers and anglophiles alike. The dining room is spacious, with stools circling communal tables, a few private booths, and white-washed exposed brick that adds to the bright decor. Start with some excellent crumpets: flaky pastry bases topped with Moroccan barbecue lamb or flavorful duck confit are best. The rotating seasonal salads aren't the focus here; instead, bite into the Scotch egg's soft-cooked yolk, with a tartar-meets-tzatziki riff for dipping, or the crispy, charred baby octopus. The "three little pigs" charcuterie plate piles thin-cut country ham, guanciale, and pork banger alongside gherkins and spiced mustard, and it's delightful. There's also solid traditional British fish, like a large, crispy, beer-battered skate atop seasoned "chips," and tasty savory pies in flavors like chicken curry or steak-and-kidney. Hang around after dinner for the impressive international gin selection and extensive beer menu.
