The neighborhood may be haute, but the Stoned Crow (thankfully) is not. Tucked below a block of well-groomed Village brownstones, this underground hangout remains as comfortably ramshackle and unpretentious as your best friend’s basement, whether it's bustling with the post-work/class crowd or a throng of weekend pub-crawlers. The rickety wooden walls are haphazardly plastered with concert and movie posters—pictures of Bogie, Brad and Marylyn mingle as effortlessly as the laidback neighborhood regulars and NYU sect. Cheap drinks and ESPN-centric TVs keep the conversation lively at the bar, while the backroom boasts a busy pool table, quick-filling seats for spectators and a jukebox of rock and funk classics. If you’re quick enough to snag a table in the back, try not to get creeped out by the stuffed birds perched on the rafters—they’re the highlight of the bar’s collection of crow-abilia.
ExtraThe lady’s bathroom is a virtual homage to teenage celebrity obsession, covered in magazine tear sheets of the latest and greatest Hollywood heartthrobs. Fancy any particular shot of Johnny or Jude? Just tell Betty at the bar—she gladly gives away copies to her fanatical patrons.
