Herbie the bartender calls Timboo's "a blue-collar bar," and so it is, even if the Slope's more about Bugaboos than boilermakers these days. Serving the neighborhood since 1969, with most of its original fixtures intact, this dive hosts a diverse neighborhood crowd, from old timey OTBers coming in off of 12th Street to younger Brooklynites calling shots in Spanish at the pool table. The top of the bar is full of TV screens showing every game you could cheer for, and the walls are loaded with three decades' of paraphernalia, from an Elvis tribute mural and old boxing stills to plaques earned by the bar's own dart and pool teams. Drinks are cheap and stick to the basics; hours are long and flexible. Listen to the barkeeps (who seem to hang around even when they're not on shift) talk about how they can't afford to live in the neighborhood anymore, and boozing it up at Timboo's can feel like a last ditch effort to keep the chai lattes and raspberry saketinis at bay. — Jessica Stockton
