The large, silly elephant head looming over the entranceway to the Watering Hole sets the tone here: The former Tracy J’s is now a big, fun bar. It’s outfitted with nods to the city’s past—photos of Joe DiMaggio, old playbills, stills from Breakfast at Tiffany's—as well as huge mirrors, wrought iron chandeliers, and exposed brick columns, but its most memorable asset is its vibrant karaoke scene. To wit, every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, Broadway never-wills and drunken NYU students alike screech Journey and Toto alongside corporate mixers and bachelorette partiers among the booths and tables of the back-room dining area. That said, the menu is no afterthought, ranging from quesadillas to popcorn shrimp to blackened Norwegian salmon. — Ben Lebeaux
