Unlike 90 percent of Midtown East bars, Traffic is, shockingly, not an Irish pub. And yet, with its overdone cocktails and 21(!) flat-screens spread over two floors, it still caters to the same post-work groups and sports fans. Both the upstairs and downstairs bars contain the lounge’s signature gimmick: traffic lights that beam green when there are drink specials, red when there are none, and yellow just before they’re over. The bar is lit up from underneath in the corresponding color, and there are specialty drinks in each color to go along. (Green is an apple martini, red is a modified Cosmo, and yellow is an organic cucumber lemonade). There is a corresponding selection of tapas, mini-burgers, and wings.
ExtraSaturday and Sunday: $12 Pitchers, 30 wings, and a bucket of beer for $30
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
