Profile

Pinched between a dynamic junction of Hasids, Hispanics, and hipsters in South Williamsburg, Trophy Bar seems a little too polished. The coarse expanse of the building’s original red brick wall hints at an energetic, surprising neighborhood just beyond its doorstep, but the interior has few of the rough edges of more memorable post–Bedford Avenue bars. Dark oak tables are topped with tea candles, a jukebox plays second-favorite hits by Bowie and Prince, and a small backyard patio features picnic tables beneath strings of white lights. The eight beers on tap—including a spicy Hennepin—are served from behind a white-tiled bar. While this little corner of Williamsburg has been parched for a viable nightlife, the creative and aesthetic forces behind this realization are sapped of juice.

Annsley...You Got it All Wrong!

Did the NYMAG reviewer pop into this place on her way home only to rush off to write a quickie review or what? What's with the focus on the interiors...its a bar review? Let me say that I love NYMAG I frequent the online reviews at least once a week but when it comes to this place OMG, you got it all wrong. I love Trophy Bar, as do some of the illest djs I have ever seen in Brooklyn OK, tealights and tiled backsplashes, I understand you Annsley. Live in NYC long enough you will notice it is divided into 2 aesthetics: OLD WORLD NY (Marlow & Sons, Huckleberry, etc.) and END OF THE WORLD NY (LIT, MAX FISH, etc.) while I love both as they emulate a time when NYC was golden... what matters the most to me is the music, the drinks and God willing the dancing. Yes, Trophy is seemingly fashioned old world style (with a sick collection of well curated trophies) but when the beats are thumping and the crowd is hopping you understand why this (clean) little underground dance-speakeasy spot fits in under the relentless rhythm of the JMZ.
