These days, it’s hard to imagine a swank, ultramodern hotel lounge without an ambivalent, even incompetent staff. Thankfully, that’s not the case at Trousdale, a hotel bar that mixes the cool of a downtown boutique with the service of an uptown veteran. A warm powder-blue and chocolate-brown color scheme offsets the room’s striking geometric intensity, and there are plenty of butter-leather banquettes and parlor-room loveseats to get you in the mood. An extensive drink menu offers a full-range of single malts, as well as specialty cocktails like the Blue Crystal Martini, a potent blend of vodka and gin. Just because Trousdale is set inside the budget-friendly Amsterdam Court Hotel, don’t expect anything other than standard hotel prices. Unless, of course, you’re enjoying the weekday happy hour with the sizable afterwork crowd. — Carla Spartos
