Profile
That's Tut's as in Tutankhamen, toots. This Egyptian-themed lounge, formerly Bauhaus, doesn't let you forget it, either: The boy-king's likeness guards the door, hangs from the walls on golden plates, and presides over divans in the curtained-off back room. But while Tut might have approved of the metal lanterns, rose petals lining the lounges, and regal, high-backed chairs, he might think the sound system overly loud for a Nile Crescent hash den (the Moroccan rai and Middle-Eastern synth pop is mercifully turned off when the far superior live acts arrive around 11:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays). Tut's presence doesn't mean the bar is grandfathered to pre-Bloomberg legislature: Though there's a large selection of head-rush inducing shisha in crenellated hookahs (flavors include tangerine, mango and the popular espresso), cigarettes are out of the question. Salads and salmon platters keep puffers sated as they attempt to polish off a Tut's Cocktail: Absolut Mandarin, Stoli Raspberry, Malibu Rum, lime, pineapple, and cranberry. This actually might be an ancient riddle of Tutankhamen's: What fruit isn't in my drink?
