Underground cultivates the seeds of new talent and a cool young crowd reaps the benefits. Outstanding stand-up comics and musicians playing original pop and folk keep the mostly Columbia crowd entertained virtually every night of the week. The bartenders are a little green, but the drinks are reasonably priced as are standard bar snacks like sliders and wings. Thanks to renovations in early 2009, it now feels less like a garden-variety bar and more like a lounge. Each of the three rooms is distinct, save for exposed brick walls and low lighting: The first has the bar and booths; the second has a pool table with just enough room around it to play; and the third has several chairs and sofas, perfect for taking in the varied performances. Looks like the neighborhood’s arid bar climate is finally improving.
