Profile

This intimate but airy gem is a café by day and a candlelit beer and wine bar at night. Aside from some low-key local regulars, V Bar provides refuge to bespectacled NYU grad kids just looking for a subtle Pinot Noir to compliment their budding professorial beards and the stray tourist who just hit the chess shops on Thompson. The bar has a house board and no shortage of partners, even if it’s the bartender on a slow night. Chalkboards display a rotating selection of over 30 vinos by the glass and sippers at the rustic, flower-decorated bar can be overheard expounding Sideways-style on what hard-nosed writer Nick Tosches calls “rancid grape juice.” Oenophobes can choose from among 36 reasonably priced beers, including an excellent selection of Belgians.

Vbar is both a coffee shop during the day and wine, import beer bar in the evening. It's got a very warm and welcoming feel... if you're a regular the staff remember who you are and what you normally order. I get a coffee every morning before work and beer during the weekends. With every purchase there's FREE Wi-Fi so you can surf the net while you enjoy your beverage. It's perfect for single or freelancers who want to get some work done and not be disturbed. They play classical music all day long, the crowd is generally very quite even though it's right by NYU.

A home away from home

I really like this place, mostly because you can always go there by yourself, yet not feel alone. During the day, it's quiet enough to work, read, or just hang out with your friends. At night I keep coming back to it as the perfect place to enjoy the company of my friends over some pretty delicious vinos. Some of the other posts talk about the staff. I've never had a problem. In fact, the bartenders have made me laugh on more than one occasion. Stay away from the cheese plate though.
