This Chelsea pub, which first turned its six beer taps on in the late '90s, is unassuming enough to be many things to many people: it's not necessarily a gay hangout, but they're as well-represented here as the blue-collar Joes nursing a beer for the evening, energy drink guzzlers gearing up for the clubs, or the soccer teams that meet here before heading to practice. Although the tavern is Irish-owned, the historic photos of Chelsea that pepper the brick walls ensure it doesn't have a particularly Emerald Isle feel. Indeed, the bustling pool table, black leather couches, and low-lit ambience (marred only by the presence of several TVs) could be Anywhere, USA. The Gaelic-brogued bartenders are friendly and, best of all, still do the "buy back." Perhaps it's this dying practice that attracts such a diverse clientele, Dave Matthews among them, who reportedly pounds pints here when he's in town.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
