Profile
Sometimes great things come in small packages. Peppered with low-key local 30-somethings, Xicala makes up for its nano size with ample intimacy. French doors open onto the sidewalk, lending the space a light, airy feel while rich woods and deep red walls accented by shimmering glass tiles add romantic flair. A virtual one woman show, the bartender-waitress perpetually pops out from behind the bar to greet regulars with a hug and to deliver orders of chorizo, cheese and chocolate-laden tapas. Pitchers of refreshingly tart and lightly sweet sangria abound on hot summer days. (Xicala’s signature drink is made from a Spanish vintage and fresh strawberries.) The selection of mostly Spanish wine is narrow but unusual with small hand-decorated placards on each table featuring the “wine of the week.”
