Right off Restaurant Row lie the varied pleasures of Zanzibar, a spacious multi-room restaurant-lounge catering to cocktailers who like their scenery swank and their drinks brightly colored and fruity flavored. Beyond the heavily draped front door, a winding acrylic bar is accented by plump red-and-black barstools then illuminated by soft white lights; under a large video screen along the far wall, velvety couches and tables for two seem primed for tête-à-têtes. A snug ski-lodge adjunct down the hall gets even cuddlier with a small cluster of tables around a circular fireplace. Don't expect to have too deep a discussion though, since the DJ’s seamless spin of hip-hop and rock comes with a fairly pronounced bass line that only becomes louder as the night wears on. A separate dining room encourages patrons to choose from a menu of Mediterranean-themed, shareable small plates and finger foods.
