This cheery indoor beer garden may not quite conjure the Bavarian Alps, but it's still a welcome respite from the claustrophobic Sturm und Drang of so many East Village booze parlors. The long tables and bench seating are especially suited to large groups; bowls of big pretzels are regularly refreshed; and the menu, though limited, nevertheless offers all three of the German dishes you've heard of. And of course, the beer: 12 tasty Teutonic brews are on tap, served in sturdy steins that encourage enthusiastic toasts (and you'll know you're in the full spirit of the place when you find yourself making them often).
