Profile

In March 2006, Texas-raised, California-trained acupuncturist Iris Netzer partnered with Inform Fitness Studio, a swank private gym helmed by fitness expert Adam Zickerman, who champions the slow-cadence workout program known as the “Power of 10.” The clean, modern space combines a warren of offices, a weight-training room, and a locker and shower area, which also houses the acupuncture treatment room. In this tiny sage-colored space, Netzer works her prickly magic on Inform clients and other Manhattan professionals, many who’ve been referred through a network of holistic practitioners and doctors. While Netzer specializes in women’s health and fertility, she also treats a wide variety of (often interrelated) emotional and physical ailments like insomnia, migraines, TMJ, asthma, acne, and digestive disorders. Clients fill out a nine-page health evaluation form prior to their first visit. A board-certified herbalist who’s also trained in bodywork, Netzer often incorporates acupressure, deep-tissue or Thai massage, and fragrant essential oils into her treatments. To promote further understanding of this ancient Chinese practice, she encourages clients to ask questions, and will suggest ways they might address their ailments at home. Chronic problems such as Crohn’s disease and PMS may require weekly treatment, whereas acute problems like Bell’s palsy and traumatic injury are treated with a series of more frequent visits.
