Manscaping—the meticulous shaving, clipping, and waxing of the male body—has only recently become a trend. But Craig Wern has been at it for eighteen years, and the fact that he’s, well, a guy significantly diminishes the embarrassment factor. Wern’s rosewood-paneled office looks more like a shrink’s office than a girlie salon, with Oriental carpets, Arts and Crafts–style furniture, and soft lighting. Each client has a thorough consultation before any work starts, and shaving is done dry, using disposable razors and a special Italian baby powder. Because many clients come before a date or other special occasion, Wern has a shower available to use after treatment. He charges by the hour, not by body part, which means the less hair you remove, the cheaper.
