No whim goes unsatisfied at Julien Farel’s eponymous bi-level Madison Avenue salon, which is frequented by a demanding and savvy clientele. After training in France and then working at Frédéric Fekkai for almost a decade, Farel takes issue with the factory-like environment of some competing salons, preferring instead to take time with each client to get to know not only her hair, but her personality; his goal is to have one complement the other rather than putting a “signature” look on every head. Ivanka Trump and Lauren Bush (as well as scores of high-powered executives) appreciate his undivided attention, and enjoy the freedom to multitask: They can check their email at computer stations during a blow out in the bustling main floor or while enjoying a hyper-relaxing Honey Pedicure in the semi-private manicure room, or get a massage while their color sets. Calvin Klein china for serving meals ordered from nearby Serafina, and jewel-like YSL nail polish bottles adorning the manicure room illustrate the salon’s attention to deluxe details. Beginning in 2005, up-to-the-minute anti-aging and hydrating facials were added to the menu so that clients could leave with a glowing complexion to match their new ‘do.
BridalThe hairdresser to such beauties as Ivanka Trump, Salma Hayek, and Lea Michele, Farel is now offering his exclusive services to brides, grooms, and bridal parties. Day-of styling with Farel is $2,000 (trial included); lavish spa packages for the bride and groom are also available, as is makeup for the big day.
