A favorite of Paula Froelich of “Page Six” fame and power girl Lizzie Grubman, Miguel Lopez Salon is a reasonably priced alternative to the typical, sterile Soho beauty factory. Opened in 2004 by Studio 24 veteran Miguel Lopez, the homey, one-room space is dolled up in shabby-chic style, complete with hardwood floors, a circular chaise lounge, and plenty of beaded lampshades and chandeliers. While Lizzie breezes in, plenty of other regulars hang out for much longer, getting a mani/pedi while their color processes, or playing with the salon’s mascot, Prada, a feisty Yorkie who sports a rhinestone-studded collar. Miguel himself is known for his expertise in buttery blonde highlights and color correction work, but he and his staff also do brisk business in extensions, Japanese straightening, and deep-conditioning treatments using the cult haircare line Alterna. Waxing, massage, and mini-facials are available in the salon’s private back room.
Indoor surfing, spinning lovefests, a luxurious pig-placenta facial, and more.
