Profile

Massage therapist Larry Costa, who has owned a handful of Manhattan spas, including Miracle Spa, The Parlor, and Life Is Beautiful, creates all the products sold and used at his latest venture, SpaLab, which he opened in the summer of 2010. Here in this bright, white-walled space that is sparsely decorated save for some black-and-white-photographs from photographer Jade Oliver, you’ll find everything from shampoo, to body scrubs and oils, to skincare for the face. Scents range from the subtle, like their signature Summer Ice, to the sultry – one of which is titled “Oh No, You Didn’t” - and customers have the option to create their own blend with essential oils. A curtain sections off the store space from a long, dark corridor with four treatment rooms where services, which are done by one of the nine massage therapists and aestheticians on staff, and include facials that range from hydrating to acne-fighting, deep-tissue massages and reflexology, as well as waxing, eyelash extensions, and microdermabrasion.
