At the quiet end of a curvy West Village street, this cozy haven for all that smells delicious has become an essential stop for fragrance fans, including celebs Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, and Hugh Jackman. Run by a knowledgeable German couple, who are expert in helping newcomers navigate the goods, Aedes deals in high-end, hard-to-find perfumes, skin care, candles and home scents from around the world; in addition to featuring over 40 fragrance brands, including Sylvie and Hierbas de Ibiza, it was one of the first places in town to stock Australian beauty line Jurlique. Though the focus is on bath and body, homes can get the Aedes treatment with room sprays, incense, potpourri, vacuum powder and candles from Costes and Diptyque. Swathed in burgundy and red, the store is done-up in a woodsy forest theme, complete with branches and leaves, and the foliage motif carries over into the purchases, too; for a few bucks extra, gifts can be wrapped in Aedes' signature black-and-gold boxes and topped with fresh flowers. — Marisa Lowenstein
I shop there since they opened in 1995. To this day it is still one of my favorite stores in the city. The best selection in perfumes and scented candles and the most beautiful giftwrapping.
I recently purchased a bottle of perfume from this company. When I received it, the bottle was only 1/2 full. I called the company and asked to speak to a manager on three occasions, and was not allowed to. The person I spoke to on the phone was rude and condescending, and stated that I would have to pay to mail the product back to them. Upon receipt, they stated that the bottle was in perfect condition, and that they refused to refund my money, and I would have to pay an additional $9.50 to have the bottle shipped back to me.
Their customer service is appalling and the bottles of perfume they try to sell you are only partially full.
I have seen this company reviewed in several magazines previously. Their selection may be great, but their service and quality is absolutely awful!
