Profile

Many salons may have morphed into full-service maintenance havens, but Anthony Gianzero—the eponymous salon on West 17th Street—sticks solely to hair. (Real hair, that is; anyone seeking extensions will have to head elsewhere.) A wine-cappuccino-magazine bar has elevated the place to a neighborhood hub, but Gianzero himself also has something to do with the loyal clientele. After honing his skills at West Village hair mecca Robert Kree, he opened this shop in 2000 and has since retained a cut and color approach that’s exacting but not dogmatic. Clients who opt for wild styles (say, orange tiger stripes) will emerge just as satisfied as those hankering for a more standard look (Bergdorf blonde, anyone?). And in the same way that Gianzero bucks the we-do-everything-from-massage-to-manicures trend, he’s also managed to shy away from the lofty prices that have become de rigueur here in Manhattan—a regular haircut rings in under $100.

Sliding Scale

As at most salons, prices for services vary according to the level of the stylist and the complexity of the request. The price of cuts includes a blowout.
