Brazilian-born Andrea Young left her career in medical research to open Beam Laser Spa with her sister Liza in December 2007. With clean lines, modern furnishings, and bossa nova on the sound system, the swank multilingual office is a convenient stop for Columbus Circle–area workers. Appointment times for the one treatment room are staggered for maximum privacy, and sole technician Andrea takes careful assessment of each client’s medical history and skin type before she starts. (Brazilians are the spa’s most requested treatment, but clients can have almost any body part tamed into submission). The state-of-the-art, dual-wavelength GentleMax machine combines Alexandrite and Yag lasers to treat all skin tones, while simultaneously cooling the skin with blasts of cryogen gas to help minimize any sting.Bridal
Andréa and Liza Young, the owners and operators of this intimate laser-hair-removal spa—there’s only one treatment room available—host brides-to-be and their entourages. Beam uses a Gentlemax Laser, an of-the-moment technology that works on all skin tones, to zap away unwanted fuzz ($150 to $600 per session).
