With four beds and one stand-up tanning booth, plus a misting booth and custom airbrushing, Bond Street Tanning is a destination for non-sun worshippers in need of color. Unlike many other tanning parlors, Bond offers gradations of bronzing equipment: For the beginner or the fair skinned, they start you off slowly with the Silverbullet bed, in which frosted bulbs ensure you won’t burn or get that Teflon pan effect. Extreme tanners who want the definitive experience hit the Chronos, the Rolls Royce of tanning beds. The only one in New York, this baby levitates clients on an acrylic platform in order to create a total, even tan on all sides; fan control and air conditioning keep you cool, while music—the salon’s or yours—helps the minutes fly by. The spot is open late for any tanning emergencies, and complimentary bottles of water, lemon-infused hand towels, and white walls matched with flowing white curtains lend a high-end spa-like feel.
