BuffSpa in The Spa at Equinox possesses a sophisticated day-spa atmosphere with the no-hassle vibe of a corner nail salon. Online or phone reservations can be made by individuals or groups of up to four even on the day of, and drop-ins can usually be accommodated. Customers settle in at the long, central manicure table or in a cozy leather chair in the adjoining pedicure room, while hands and feet are cleansed, exfoliated, and moisturized by a staff that sports Lambertson Truex, Jimmy Choo, or Manolo Blahniks, depending on the season. Treatments use BuffFoliation lotion, warm Barielle mud, or Guinot products, and the polish selection boasts nine basic shades of white, taupe, pink, and red by TuffBuff, the spa’s own chip-proof line. (There are also fifty or so colors by Essie.) The strictest standards of sanitation are upheld, using only thoroughly sterilized or brand new tools; each pedicure uses a new Titinia pumice sponge, which clients can then take home. An in-house eyebrow specialist is also on hand to wax, tweeze, and dispense brow-shaping advice, and targeted BuffFlexology hand and foot massages are offered in fifteen- and thirty-minute increments. Clients can request a home visit (extra charges apply) or do as Julia Stiles and the Hilton sisters did and host an in-spa beauty party, complete with champagne and up to eleven of their closest friends.Extra
