Profile
Curls get plenty of TLC at this elegant Midtown salon. Owner and curly-hair expert Christo has been styling hair since the age of twelve, and developed an affinity for Shirley Temple-like locks early on. His salon, which opened in 2002, features a styling team of top wave masters who cut, color, and style curls into looking and feeling their best. Unlike some of the other curl-focused salons in the city, Christo is small and intimate, and feels like the living room of a well-appointed home: Gracefully understated, the rectangular space's cherry wood floors, Asian-inspired furnishings, and large windows draped with silvery-white organza curtains lend a polished, sophisticated feel. Instead of typical salon styling chairs and mirrors, each stylist has a custom-made mahogany station carved with a Greek key ornamental motif—a subtle nod to Christo's youth on the island of Cyprus. In addition to detailed cuts and styles, specialized treatments for ringlets include single- and double-process coloring, custom-blended intensive conditioning and, for those who prefer to tame their locks, Bio Softening and Thermal Straightening. The salon also features its own product line, Curlisto Systems, a complete line of botanical shampoos, conditioners, and styling products specially designed for curly hair, but effective on all types and textures—including pin-straight.
ExtraIf you're driving to Christo, park at the "SwiftPark" garage on 47th St. between Sixth and Seventh Avenues—the salon sells $20 vouchers for 12 hours at this garage only.
