City Sun's tasteful milieu—butterscotch walls, hardwood floors, white leather couches, paper lanterns—annihilates the usual tanning-salon stereotype of George Hamilton cheesiness. Catering to all walks of urban life, this swank sunless-tanning hub boasts fifteen private rooms with beds of various caliber (most are made in Germany, birthplace of the indoor tanning industry). The UWE P-90, the Porsche of tanning beds, offers a cool aromatherapy mist and adjustable lamps; the SunBoard is an open chaise lounge-like bed for claustrophobic folk; and the S-Class has five facial lamps for an ultra-bronzed complexion. Some beds have air-conditioning, all have headphones equipped with remote-controlled satellite radio, the Meshons' own i-Tunes mix, and—for those who really want to work the beach vibe—ocean sounds. Newcomers fill out a profile so staff can determine skin type and cooking time (they're pretty insistent on making sure clients don't fry), which typically runs from nine to fifteen minutes. For those wanting color but not keen on rays, there's an automatic UV-free spray booth with three shade options. The salon provides towels, bottled water, deodorant, and a storage area where regulars can stash their own lotions.
