From the outside, D&P looks like a charmingly ordinary neighborhood barbershop—just one of the dozens of holes-in-the-wall where guys from the block come in for weekly trims. Yet D&P are masters in standard barbershop styles: In just 15 minutes (and for just $16), their expert scissors and electric-clippers can turn a messy mop into a clean-lined fade or “businessman’s cut.” (Dozens of photos line the walls for clients who’d rather point than describe what they want.) It’s only when the occasional female customer wanders in that the shop’s secret quirk is revealed: D&P also does a bustling business in eyebrow and upper-lip threading. Shop manager Mila Davydova learned the craft in her home country of Kazakhstan, and her decades of experience show in the refined arch of her clients’ brows. Davydova wields her thread right in the middle of the shop (no privacy), but for a smooth face at a reasonable cost—that’s just the price you pay.
