Toronto-born Adrian De Berardinis hid a lifelong passion for hairdressing from his father, legendary stylist Giancarlo, coming clean only after he’d already left for college to study communications. Adrian fast-tracked his training at the Antonio Prieto Salon, where he shot from apprentice to creative director in just two years. In December 2007, he set up his own sixteen-chair shop—technically, the Chelsea edition of Giancarlo’s popular Greenwich, Connecticut, salon. Designer Celerie Kemble helped create the glossy white-and-gold space, where styling stations and an in-house coffee and wine bar are lit by an array of antique floor mirrors, chrome and Lucite chandeliers, and hammered-brass flower sconces. De Berardinis specializes in sophisticated yet low-maintenance hair, using deep-conditioning treatments and styling products by Kérastase and Shu Uemura to smooth tresses. His “crochet” layering technique—achieved with traditional scissors rather than thinning shears to maintain body—adds movement and dimension to cuts for easy styling. The same goes for the salon’s signature Baci di Sole color treatment, a father-son innovation in which color is painted on teased hair to create a natural, sun-kissed look that eliminates root lines. — Sarah Walker
