The justly famous Japanese hair-straightening process works on almost every kind of unruly hair—but it can run over $500 and, worse, leave roots brittle and broken. Enter Steve Kong, whose clean and airy Chinatown salon has been straightening hair shafts for more than a decade, for $150 less than the going rate (treatments start at $350). Kong is one of a handful of New York stylists with an advance certificate for the treatment. He tests hair and scalp, then custom mixes the chemicals and protective lotions so that your hair gets straightened without getting destroyed.
I went to Head Quarterz at Lafayette to have a japanese straightening treatment done. They were extremely professional and careful with my hair. Now I have a perfect straight hair, smooth and shiny thanks to Shelley, the girl who did the treatment. I will definitely go back when my natural hair grows up again.
I have been to Head Quarterz Salon a few times by now since the services were excellent. I have also brought a few friends there and they love their haircuts and the services. My stylist was Steve. He gave me a fabulous "3-Dimension" hair coloring. I have been coloring my hair for over 15 years at other salons, but this is the first time that I got compliments from many people about my hair color. Steve basically used 3 similar colors and strategically colored different sections of my hair. My friends got haircuts from Ken, who also did a great job. He listened and advised you. I can always get an appointment and never have to wait when I arrived. The lady at the front desk who scheduled the appointment and greeted me when I arrived was very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend HQ Salon.
