The justly famous Japanese hair-straightening process works on almost every kind of unruly hair—but it can run over $500 and, worse, leave roots brittle and broken. Enter Steve Kong, whose clean and airy Chinatown salon has been straightening hair shafts for more than a decade, for $150 less than the going rate (treatments start at $350). Kong is one of a handful of New York stylists with an advance certificate for the treatment. He tests hair and scalp, then custom mixes the chemicals and protective lotions so that your hair gets straightened without getting destroyed.
I had the Japanese straightening done last summer and even travelled 3 1/2 hrs from Mass to see Steve. He did an excellent job. Not only I saw the difference right away, but when I went back to work, everyone commented that the my "new" hair style made me look younger.
Great Job Steve! Not only the quality was excellent, but the service was excellent as well. Everyone was very friendly at the salon. Can't wait to see you again this summer!
Thank you Steve!!

I've had Japanese straightening three times before, but I've had the best experience at Head Quarterz! Steve and the staff at Head Quarterz are friendly and professional. Steve is there to address all your concerns about your hair and the treatment. It's been more than 5 months and my hair is still straight, shiny, and silky, with no damage. The price is also quite reasonable, compared to other salons farther uptown. I go there for regular haircuts and styling, and I'm always satisfied with the service. I definitely recommend this place!
