Profile
After training at the prestigious Vidal Sassoon Academy in London in the swinging seventies, Japanese hair artist Masako Hoshi decided to test her mastery of the institute’s wildly popular precision cut in New York (by way of Paris and Tokyo). In 1990, she opened her first salon in the East Village, and has since borne three more throughout the city (as well in Paris, Berlin, and Kyoto). Marginal English notwithstanding, this eccentric little lady knows her stuff—specifically, wet and dry cuts, color, straightening, perms, and relaxers—and her creativity doesn’t stop at hair design. In addition to handmade, all-natural shampoos and conditioners, each salon sports a minimalist architecture geared toward its neighborhood.
Hands-on TherapyShiatsu massage is offered in the Upper West Side, East Village, and Chelsea locations.
